About Us

The mission of the SSW-SO is to assist School of Social Work student empowerment, promote the School of Social Work and profession through collaboration and education, and enhance personal and professional development of UNE Social Work students. This is a graduate student group from the University of New England's School of Social Work committed to: 1. Providing a voice for students within the School of Social by acting as liaisons among administration, faculty, and students. 2. Creating a structure for student peer support. 3. Promoting and educating about the role of the social work profession and issues of social justice within the University and broader community. 4. Developing a forum for developing intra- and inter-professional relationships and networking opportunities within the University and broader community. The SSW-SO understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities while abiding by all University of New England policies. University of New England policies and protocol will supersede all other policies and procedures.

Members Benefits

1. Membership shall be open and include all matriculating UNE Portland Campus-based students in the School of Social Work graduate program. 2. Membership will not be exclusive or selective. Anyone who meets the eligibility requirements can be a member. 3. All members must be matriculated UNE students in good academic standing. 4. Membership is distinguished from participation, such that participation in events and meetings may, at the SSW-SO's discretion, be open to other University Community Members, including other students, faculty, staff, alumni and invited guests, whereas only SSW-SO members may have voting and decision making privileges within the organization. 5. SSW-SO openly admits students to its membership and does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identification, age, religion, national or ethnic origin, visible or invisible disability, or veteran status in the selection of its members or in its programs unless federal or state laws allow for such exceptions. 6. Members are encouraged to be active participants in SSW-SO regular meetings and special events. 7. No dues or application are required for membership.
