Be The Match
Wed. March 2 & Fri. March 4
10am-2pm
Wing Lounge
A friend of UNE CDM, Danny, has been fighting a rare type of cutaneous t-cell lymphoma for many years. His Lymphoma has become more aggressive and his doctors have put him on track for an Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant mid-year this year, around the time of the arrival of his first child. Unfortunately, the process of finding a donor match has not been successful through sibling testing or through the national database. To help Danny with finding the best possible match, we are calling on our friends, family, and community to join our effort in a Donor Drive to help not only Danny find a match, but others who are in the same search find their match as well. We are hosting a live in-person drive on campus March 2 and 4 from 10am -2pm in Wing Lounge. Please read the information below and consider joining the National Donor Registry to help save a life and possibly help save Danny's!
The national database is through www.bethematch.org . Be The Match® finds matched donors for patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell disease and other life-threatening blood diseases.
In order to join, you must be:
1. 18-40 years old
2. Willing to donate to ANY patient in need
3. Meet the health guidelines
What is donation like if you are chosen as a donor for a patient?
80% of the time: Peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donation (this would be the case for Danny's donor)
-Similar to donating plasma
-Non-surgical process
20% of the time: Marrow donation
-You’re under anesthesia
-Liquid marrow is drawn
Please keep in mind that you are able to say no if contacted as a match at any time.
